PETER K. OPPENHEIM
International Banking Expert

Peter Oppenheim is an acknowledged expert in the field of international banking. He combines over 30 years experience as a vice president of Bank of America with a comparable number of years as the author of the American Bankers’ Association’s series of textbooks on international banking. The most recent edition in 1996, Global Banking, was described by the ABA as continuing "a 25-year series of books on international banking that thousands of bankers have relied on as their basic reference source and practical guide." He has taught at several graduate banking schools, been recognized as an expert in U.S. Federal Court, and has conducted seminars for senior bankers in nearly a dozen countries. He retired from Bank of America in 1987 and since has continued as a consultant to various Bank of America units, principally Advisory Services, Training, and Systems Services.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

VICE PRESIDENT: 1974-1987
Bank of America, San Francisco

Head of Business Development for Latin America/Caribbean Division. Managed the implementation of the division relocation to Caracas, opened the Cayman Islands Branch, and supervised the division-wide business development of project financing programs for the Latin America Division. Developed and led internal specialized training for implementation of systems programs in international banking, global officer development programs, and other manager development training.

VICE PRESIDENT/DIVISION HEAD: 1969-1974
Bank of America, New York

Head of the Mexico, Canada and Bahamas Division at Bank of America’s Edge Act corporation in New York City. During this period opened the overseas branch in Nassau, The Bahamas and managed its portfolio and operations.

AREA RELATIONS OFFICER: 1960-1969
Bank of America, San Francisco

In charge of credit operations for Bank of America’s units in Brazil, Central America, and then Mexico which at that time was the Bank’s second largest overseas credit position. Responsibilities included annual country risk assessment, business development coordination, correspondent bank relations supervision, and implementation of short and long term credit programs.

FOREIGN EXCHANGE TRADER: 1957-1959
Bank of America, Los Angeles

In charge of the currency desk trading upon joining Bank of America. Advised domestic clients and branches on foreign exchange exposures.
